| - We found Doggie Steps via Yelp in January, so of course I have to review here in case any of you reading this right now are not sure which trainer or training school to choose for your fuzzy family members. I also research everything to the extreme to make sure we have chosen the best person/company possible, and for the best price. We decided to do the in-house 5 week training because our home, at the time we reached out, was just unmanageable long term. Mark has changed our household for the better since I reached out to ask if he had room to take us on as home-visit clients! He's great and i'm sure his group sessions are just as effective. We have learned so much, and will continue to improve even though our session is completed. He offers all clients that purchase an in-home package to also attend his weekend group classes for additional or refresher training as needed.
Background on our situation: About a month and a half ago we got a second Husky. It was always our plan to get a second dog, but I honestly had no idea what I was doing integrating a new adult male dog into a house where we already had an adult male dog. Both dogs got along at first, but pack-order tests were soon an issue for us. On day #2 there was a scary fight in our living room over a bone. I decided that we would really benefit from professional help.......I had no clue what I was doing. I wanted the new pup to feel at home, and I wanted our 1st pup to understand the new dynamic.
We saw a change after the very first session with Mark. Of course we did all the home-work during the week, but that was easy and only took a little bit of time out of our days - so well worth it. Mark has helped us to make meal-time an orchestrated breeze, and has helped our daily walk time to be more calm. Our dogs are the best of friends now, and I think they appreciate knowing exactly what is expected of them to get the results they want. We have also alleviated our own stress in trying to control them.
Basically Mark trained us! And we have trained the dogs through repetition and positive rewards.
Additionally, the dogs loved Mark and were always excited about 'school night' when he arrived. Training them to not excitedly jump on people they know and like at the door is a quality problem that we are still trying to educate them on.
In closing, stop your search here and if you need help training your dog(s), contact Mark. I will say he is not cheap, but you get what you pay for. It is worth it. Also consider the experience an investment in your own personal knowledge. The class was as much an education for me as it was for our dogs. Mark has trained us to train the dogs and I can carry that skill with me for the rest of my life. We paid for one 5-week session -- but 4 of us (2 dogs, 2 people) have gained an education.
