  • This review is for an experience from about a year and a half ago. I don't know why it took so long for me to get around to this review, but I guess I finally realized it needed to be done. Inka holds a special place in my heart because it was the first date I had with my current girlfriend. But nevertheless, I know I need to give an objective review about the restaurant, not the date! http://mashable.com/2016/01/12/yelp-dating-reviews-new-york/#0ehKdaV3YOqW In my opinion, Inka Heritage was a little expensive for classic, comfort food (dinner at least), but about as good as comfort Peruvian food gets (at least from my limited knowledge of Peruvian cuisine). The atmosphere was pretty homey and intimate but still had the elegance of an upscale restaurant. I opted for the seco de cordero (braised lamb) and my girlfriend (this was our first date!) went for the classic lomo saltado (bite-sized beef tenderloin). While my dish was $23 and hers was $15, it still looked like she got more food! I didn't know beef tenderloin was that much less expensive than lamb. Portion to pricing qualms aside, both of the entrees were delicious. Her lomo saltado came with a heaping plate of fries, rice and sauteed vegetables, while my seco de cordero came with rice and beans, and a single fried yucca stick (lol?). The rice from both plates was shaped into cute triangular prism-like objects, and went well with the residual sauces. Beans were pretty tasty and tender, but nothing to write home about. I personally think the beef tenderloin was a bit overcooked (still very juicy and flavorful), but I think my girlfriend ordered it that way and she loved every bite of hers. The lamb, despite it being only about 5 or 6 bites, was the winner of the night--melt-in-your-mouth, juicy, delectable, and bursting with flavor. Overall I would give Inka Heritage a bit higher than 4 stars if I could. The bizarrely small portioning of my lamb dish especially in comparison to the beef tenderloin was a bit off-putting, so it falls flat of the consistent wow-factor I would expect from a 5 star for this price. But hey, it did get me a girlfriend.
