I really didn't expect a lot from Thrifty. I've heard bad things about Thrifty, they tell you to print out a voucher and bring it, and the company that charges the credit card has a weird name and seems sketchy. But somehow, I decided to get a Thrifty car and see what happens.
The good news: Picking up the car was easy, the woman at the counter didn't care about the voucher, and I got to pick my own car while I was in the lot looking at them. Dropping off the car was a little slow but easy.
The bad news: The car was supposed to be a Ford Focus or similar and it was a Mazda 2, which is more like a Ford Fiesta. And that was my only choice, either a red Mazda 2 or a black one. We took the red one because it's Arizona and the sun will melt anything in a black car. The car had 35,000 miles on it, which is a lot for a rental car. And there aren't many Thrifty offices when you get out of the city so I felt sort of on my own. A breakdown would have taken time to fix.
But the little car ran well, huffing and puffing its way through the mountains heading north and that's what I wanted. I'm not afraid to use Thrifty any more but I don't find myself particularly drawn to them.
