| - I rated this one-star because you cannot rate it zero.
I did not buy windows from Universal Windows Direct because my experience was spot on with everybody else who reviewed their experience here. From them needing to have both my wife and myself present to calling their boss to having the process take a stupid amount of time. I want to add two things to what everyone else has said:
1) No matter what they advertise they will always end up at the same price. They quoted buy one get one free windows which prompted my inquiry. Their starting number was $38,000 so when you buy one get one free the quote is $19,000. Along with the BOGO offer was 60-month interest free financing. In order to take advantage of this offer they asked for a 60% DOWN PAYMENT.
2) No matter what the price is they will end up around $948 per window. No matter the size. After we were assessed this astronomical number we asked, "ok, what if we do some now and some later?" I live in an older home with picture windows. I said, "for example's sake let's do the front of the house, how much?" The front of the house includes two picture windows and a bathroom with a much, much smaller window - probably 1/8 of the the size. This is when we discovered that she didn't actually measure each window and quote each window. She stuck a tape measure to several, but not all of the window just for show. She said the bathroom window isn't outside of a standard size (like a small basement window I'm guessing) so they would cost the same.
I personally wouldn't waste your time asking them to come in unless you have an entire morning or afternoon to spend listening about the company history and asked to actually answer hypothetical question after hypothetical question. The presentation literally stops until you answer, yes. "So, does this sound like a company you'd like to work with?" "So, do these seem like the kind of windows you'd like to put in your house?" After being presented with no less than 10 competitor's quotes we had to guess her quote. We could not see the quote until we guessed. My wife said, "why are we guessing?" and still, a guess had to be made before she would show us.
At the end, when you say you aren't mortgaging windows they make one last pitch. "Ok, we can get to this number but you have to do this, this and this. And this offer is only good right now because it costs us money to come out here more than once. So, if you don't sign this before I leave, this offer will go away."
For what it's worth, we had the same experience with Window Nation. We had Lowe's come in and he measured every single window, figured the square footage, and quoted each individual window. These window companies are a scam made to take advantage of people who are not savvy.
You've been warned. I promise, if you bring them in this will be your experience.
