My expectations were high. Unfortunately- Sushi Hiro did not deliver on the following:
1) Bento Box- the Teri Beef was tender but the sauce had NO flavor. None. No sweetness. No saltiness. Jus blah. Shumai was cold in the middle and almost pasty. Gross. Portion is big but quantity never rules over quality.
2) Tempura- no finesse. The tempura was not flaky and delicate. Instead it was globby, oily, and blah. To boot, I think the shrimp tempura was really ebi fry and not tempura. Big difference.
3) Sushi Rice- could've used a bit more vinegar and tasted more like regular rice. On a couple of the rolls the rice was hard and almost pasted together. Weird sensation and not pleasant.
Hiro did deliver on the following:
1) Service- excellent. Attentive, friendly, and sincere. Well trained staff.
2) Ambiance- comfortable. Very clean restaurant. Booths with the curtains is a nice touch.
3) Flexible- requested a substitution and was accommodated with a smile.
4) Quality of Fish- on point. Fresh.
Bottom line- next time we'll go for sashimi and nigiri. I get the feeling they offer the bento to cast a wider net of diners but the attention is on the fish. Not on the bento. I hope they pay more attention to the quality of the sushi rice and maintain the quality of the fish.
