| - I like the sun. I like water parks. I remember as a kid in Southern California, the commercials for Raging Waters in San Dimas or Wild Rivers in Irvine, or the mysterious Lake Delores which had a commercial of a kid riding down a metal slide- on his feet, standing up, before he launched into a lake. Now that I'm an adult I've been to my fair share of water parks. They're now a great place to play "find the adult without a single tattoo". However, for their intent and purpose, water parks are pretty fun. We just got back from a vacation to Michigan, including Michigan's Adventure- which is an amusement park AND water park, and that was cool. So anyway, last night my wife announce that the plan for Sunday was to go to Sunsplash using our Pogo Pass. We've been here numerous times including hosting two birthday parties so it's a fun thing for the family. I had work to do and had just gone to the aforementioned Michigan park so wasn't too enthusiastic. However, for the sake of being a good dad I agreed to go. We got there right at opening so we got a pretty sweet home base with some recliners and picnic table. As it was early in the day I suggested that while the kids went nuts, me and the wife go on the lazy river. As we got in, she said "you should bring your flip flops with us" Ever the smart husband, I scoffed at her suggestion and left them at the entrance. So we took a few laps around that lazy river, enjoying the peaceful ride. When we got out, guess what... That's right, someone had stolen my $50 Reef flip flops. Incredulous, I made it my mission to find the culprit. The entire rest of the day my eyes were trained to the ground, looking for someone with my flip flops. By the way, Arizona, Summer, 105 degrees, barefoot... I was a little pissed off as my feet became ground beef and I had to sprint from shadow to shadow. I took a break from fretting and we went on many of the rides. All were fun, including the newer one where the trap door lets you fall straight down. But every time I had to walk in the sun or stand in a line, my mind went to where my damn flip flops were and what I'd do to the prick who took them. Whenever we walked I tried walking up higher on planter boxes so I could rain down my vengeance upon the perpetrator when I saw him. Yet hours later, my closest suspect was a clean cut, ink free dude, yet even his flip flops- though brown and Reef, were clearly not mine. By the end of the day, I was physically exhausted. Had fun on all the great rides, ate some dippin dots, got a hamburger at 11:30AM that was actually very good, and won enough tickets in the arcade to buy a tootsie roll. The family had fun, the kids friends had fun and we are only mildly sunburned. The place is very good, but if I ever find the clown who stole my flip flops, I'm gonna kill him. My wife's last comment- "maybe he'll contract your fungus foot"
