  • "That place is horrible!" -My wife's 9-year-old nephew when I asked him his thoughts on Cracker Jax. And sadly, I have to agree with him. Cracker Jax is a dump, plain and simple. From the moment our group walked through the front door, we were completely disappointed. The arcade is tiny, filthy, and outdated, not to mention there was a dead cockroach next to the token machine. I was surprised to see that the games still used tokens and spit out paper tickets. Don't get me wrong, I remember my days of youth stuffing hundreds of tickets in my pockets, saving up for the cheap China toys behind the counter, but with the plethora of nicer arcades out there using a card system, the paper tickets need to go. Plus this avoids the problem of tokens getting stuck in the coin slot, which happened quite a few times. After blowing through $20 in about 15 minutes, we headed out back to check out the other attractions. The smaller go-kart track was mild fun for the little kids, but the karts have seen better days. Even though the place was empty, it felt like the workers couldn't wait to get the kids out of there. Save your money until your kids are tall enough to drive on the large track. My wife's nephew was big enough to take a spin on those, and he enjoyed it despite another kid bumping him constantly, as the other kid's kart was clearly faster. The bumper boats were a trip, as it looked like an 80s relic frozen in time. The boats themselves haven't been updated (or repaired) in over 30 years. I took one look and told my group of kids decisively, "We are not riding those!" Same thing could be said for the mini golf. One look and I could see what other reviewers have mentioned. Shredded greens, exposed framing, and overall abuse was abundant. I'm not going to waste my money since it certainly isn't going towards the maintenance. To put it bluntly, this location needs to be either completely overhauled or put out of its misery. I've been to a couple of other fun centers in the Phoenix area that put Cracker Jax to shame. It's not a matter of age, as Castles n' Coasters has been around for decades as well, and is nicer in every aspect. And considering that there are much better options out around the Valley, I doubt I'll ever be returning to Cracker Jax. To put it in an analogy, they are a huge bird poo on the clean vehicle that is Scottsdale.
