  • I had heard about this place endlessly, so after living in Madison almost a year I figured it was high time I gave it a shot. My girlfriend and I came here on a sunny April Saturday afternoon around 3. The hostess was kind and informed us the only seats available were right in front of the door or on the bar, so beware this place gets busy all the time. We sat at the bar and were greeted with menus right away. Their drink menu is fantastic and full of local beers and I love how it tells you where the beer comes from! Plenty of mixed drink options too that sounded interesting. The prices stood out to me as I thought we would be paying a hefty sum but it is actually very affordable with most beer pints at 5 dollars and a few at 3 or below! I had heard all about old fashioned having the best cheese curds so you know I had to try them and wow did they live up to the hype. I was never a cheese curd lover but now I see why they get so much love. They were perfectly gooey and not too fried, eat them quickly though because they will get soggy. The roasted garlic dip was perfect with them and so was ranch. We split a walleye fish sandwich with fries and the bartender, who was great and gave us plenty of conversation, took it upon herself to make sure it was split into two even plated portions which I thought was a very sweet touch. The meal was well done to me but we both thought the tarter sauce was a little on the sweet side and had a weird tangy taste we couldn't quite pin down, and the bread was very buttery but hey it is Wisconsin. The fries were salted well and the meal on the whole was a 7 out of 10. Love the decor in here too
