  • Don't rent from this place! If you're flying into Charlotte and need a rental car, there are many options to do so from the terminal. Payless is 1 of 3 car rental companies that require an offsite shuttle (Thrifty, Sixt are the others). All the other rental companies were located at the terminal. When you come out of the terminal there will be a sign that says rental cars to the right. However, to get to Payless, go all the way down on the left. There's a pillar with the 3 car rental companies on it; wait there for the shuttle. We waited about 30 minutes (!) for our shuttle on a weekday afternoon. It's about a 7 minute trip to the rental place which is not a stand alone facility but is instead located inside a Sheraton Hotel. Staff was underwhelming and the whole process seemed a little off. We were charged an extra $30 for our rental; I was told it was gas money that would be refunded to me if I brought it back with a full tank. Normally this a service that you can decline but it was apparently mandatory here. The car was so-so (someone had smoked in it at some point) but still the cheapest rental by about $35. Upon returning the vehicle at the end of our trip the gas money charge was refunded as promised and we were immediately shuttled back to the airport. If you really and truly want the cheapest rental in town, this is it. Otherwise, go with one of the in-terminal options.
