  • Horrible! Horrible Airline! Trust me, this is not a petty rant from someone who was "just having a bad day." Spirit has the privilege of being the first one star that I have ever given (I have never given anything below 3 stars before this). Spirit Airlines' horrendous customer service is an intentional and deliberate aspect of their entire business model. Spirit Airlines cannot compete with larger, more legitimate Airlines like Southwest, American, United, etc. So they have to result to cheap tricks, scams, and almost outright dishonesty as the foundation of their business. Spirit tries to tout their low rates as the hallmark of their business. Their website, along with the brochure on the plane, claims that they can offer the lowest rates because they pack a few more seats on the plane (giving you less leg room), and they don't give you any free peanuts or soda. Seems great, right?! Who doesn't love cheap rates. However, it only seems cheap. Are we really expected to believe that few bags of peanuts is enough to offer the lowest rates around. Spirit Airlines makes up for their low rates by hiding fees in as many little places as they can. Places you would never imagine a fee would be possible. Just be ready to pay $50 for every bag that you have (including carry on). Not too mention an almost endless list of annoyances: paying for printing a boarding pass rather than printing it out yourself, paying $20 to choose your seat??, dealing with an embarrassingly bad website, not being able to contact anyone from customer service for hours. They are a terrible company whose entire business model is predicated on tricking customers into thinking they are a getting a great deal and then sucking money from them once it is too late to change the flight. I do not know how they think this is sustainable because there is no way that any customer will ever stay with them for more than one mistaken flight. The only possible way I would recommend Spirit airlines is if you absolutely NEED a flight that leaves at that exact time, there absolutely no other options, and you are traveling with nothing but the clothes on your back.
