I'm a fan of most organizations doing great things in the community and Brambley Hedge Rabbit Rescue is no exception. I love how they have a thrift shop to support the bunnies and on Saturdays from 10-2 bring a few into the shop at the back to visit (how cute)! Apparently they have about 150 resident bunnies who are in need of homes and help. The ladies here are very passionate and knowledgeable about their bunnies which is so great to see.
I got to meet a few of the furry residents, and learned that they are in need of volunteers and donations and about anything else you can do to help. Check out their site if you want to learn more about to help or perhaps find a furry companion http://bhrabbitrescue.org/
I would have loved to have stopped by the shelter component of Brambley Hedge, but was advised they do not allow the public to visits - only volunteers can visit. I would imagine this policy has its pros and cons and must have a logical reason behind it.
From my perspective though, I would be more willing to donate both time and money if there were visiting hours at the shelter. I feel it's good to see where your money is going if you're donating. I also feel you are more likely to donate and volunteer if you make a personal connection with the bunnies in need. Also, the more people that see a bunny that is looking for a home, the more likely they are to find a home.
Many shelters allow you sponsor rabbits, visit for play time, bring them goodie bags and snacks. I feel opening the doors, even if it's only one afternoon a week would be beneficial for everyone involved (and lots of fun).
The thrift shop itself was not really my style. Most items were fairly used, but prices were really good. Lots of second hand books, clothes, and jewelry. Nothing I really desired and unfortunately they didn't have much in the way of rabbit themed things or rabbit supplies.
I'll keep my eye on this place and be one of the first visitors if they decide to open their doors to the shelter component.
