| - My first move with this company in 2013 was fantastic and caused me to call again for my move a month ago. I wouldn't call them again. Here's a quick run down of my second move. It's long, but there was a lot wrong with this move!
1. Call from the beltline to say they got a late start and now there was TRAFFIC so they'd be even later.
2. Arrived and were professional and courteous. Explained they had to use a Ryder truck because all the company trucks were being used. Also explained that I had much more stuff than they thought so they might need to go get another truck. This was after I'd phoned in a revised list (less items) they needed to move. By the way, the truck was MORE than large enough - even I could see that. Personable folks but appeared very young.
3. Took 1 young man close to 30 min to "saran wrap" the sofa as he was pulling too tight and breaking the wrap. Inexperience or bad product?
4. Spent the rest of the time as they were loading directing on them HOW to move the furniture - 'turn it so it fits, pick this side up first,' type of directions.
5. On the last check to see if they'd packed everything, found items still in basement and their comment was "oh, we were supposed to take those too?" aftter having been told "load everything from the basement."
6.. Finished loading and they announced they were going back to the east side for a company barbeque, they'd be gone about 2 hours but "they wouldn't charge us for that time". ????????? Called about 15 min later to say they mixed it up the company bbq wasn't that day.
7. Parked at the new house in the "alley" where they would have to go through a fence, around a corner, up a set of deck stairs, over a sliding glass door threshold as they unloaded. Took 15 min to convince them that parking on the street where they wouldn't block access and had a straight line into the house was a better option.
9. Failed to put down carpet protector as I'd requested and explained to the office that I had new carpet everywhere -including stairs - and was assured they would be able to completely protect the carpet.
10. Carried obvious "outside items" into the house - shepherds hooks and a shovel with dirt on them, looked confused with what to do them until I took them from him and put them outside.
11. Couldn't figure out how to move a refrigerator down the stairs to the basement - took us helping them to get it done.
12. Brought in my mattress with grease and dirt embedded into the entire side. Apparently they didn't think to protect it from whatever was on the floor in the truck nor did they offer me the option of purchasing a mattress cover prior to loading.
13. Was told I could "just spot clean the mattress with some soap and water." We attempted to do that with the movers there...of course it didn't work.
14. Move took 2 hours longer than I was told it would - even longer than the original estimate before I revised what needed moving. Much of this I believe was due to the inexperienced movers.
15. Currently trying to get compensated for the mattress - I've been offered less than half of what replacement costs to replace it. Not sure why their mistake should cost me??? Especially after the first offer was for the full replacement value and now the office manager is backing off of that offer?
I've made numerous cross-country trips and never had this level of service. Nor has any moving company refused to "make whole" what they damaged. I was expecting good, local service and taking care of the damage. I had that in the first move, not in the 2nd move.
The positives - the two young men did work hard when they were there - no wasted time, and they did try hard. Unfortunately, I'm left feeling they were way too inexperienced to be on their own and their inexperience has left me with a bad feeling about this company. I'd be wary in picking them again - despite the excellent first move I had.
