| - I had mixed feelings about visiting the Halle museum, being that I couldn't help but think, "How exciting could a museum focusing on the heart be?" I was looking for somewhere new (and low-cost) to take my "Little" through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. I needed an opportunity that would be both educational and fun.
Well, long story short, I was astonished. The museum was easy to locate, very clean, colorful, informative, and educationally challenging both for my "Little" and myself, as a 51-year-old adult. The people working at the museum were warm and friendly and there were people to help answer questions as we proceeded through the exhibits. While still on the small side, the museum was bigger than I anticipated, and had interactive Q&A and games to stimulate interest and learning.
The museum teaches not only about the function of the heart but about the requirements of good health in a way that children can understand. Knowing my Little's mother smoked, I was intrigued to hear my Little say "yuck!" when she heard about the bad chemicals inside tobacco, and she gasped to see the black lungs of a smoker, with no prompting from me.
The museum taught and reinforced the importance of eating healthy (e.g., food the colors of the rainbow) and, especially important, that we all have CHOICES as to the food we put into their mouths.
All said, I was very impressed with the museum and would recommend it to all parents and "Bigs". I am grateful for this organization for the education they provide so as to instill the importance of taking responsibility for one's own health starting at a young age.
