| - Food: Thelma's Special, Pancit Palabok, Lumpia Shanghai, "Coco nana".
Thema's Filipino Restaurant has been a longstanding little restaurant which I've had the pleasure to eat at quite a few times when it first opened up. Since moving away from that side of town, it has been awhile, but it so happened that we were in the area this week. To put simply, it no longer remains up to par from what it used to be.
Upon taking our seats, three different high chairs had to be brought in as the first two had broken seat belts for our baby. Our food came fairly quickly but not hot at all. Thelma's special consists of fried pork belly, mixed with fresh diced tomatoes and onions. The lechon (pork belly) just wasn't up to par as other more recently opened Filipino restaurants in Nevada, and the portions of meat were considerably smaller than before.
Their version of pancit palabok just wasn't special, either. The taste was very bland and dish came hardly warm. We didn't even finish the plate and our leftovers sat in the fridge until thrown away. That usually doesn't happen with Filipino food.
To end the night with dessert, I ordered their "coco-nana". Coconut ice cream on banana nut bread. Only when the dessert came out, they had purple Taro ice cream instead. Our server stated they ran out of coconut ice cream. If that were the case, why not ask the customer first if a substitution was okay or not? Between our water cups never being refilled and this, a sadly disappointing experience both food and service-wise.
