| - Showed up at 7pm, reservation for a Deluxe King bed room in hand. "No room available; we're oversold this evening". They tried to "upgrade" me to a business suite, which had lots of space, a a conference table with nice chairs, a kitchenette.... and no bed. It had a 70s-era pull-out couch, which was a) smaller than a double, and b) would have crumpled like tinfoil if I had tried to sleep on it. When I returned to the front desk and asked them to find me a hotel room with a grown-up bed in it, they told me to wait in the suite until they called me to tell me a room was available. At 11pm, I finally called them and they told me to come down and check in again for a new room. The room smelled and had constant elevator noise, but it had a nice bed.
The line-up for the front desk, which I had to wait in three times, was surprisingly long, likely as overworked front desk staff did their best to stuff guests into every nook and cranny of the hotel. Two of the elevators are shut down, and I assume they have cots set up in them.
Everyone was nice and pleasant, which is the only reason there are two stars here, but hotels shouldn't be adding to the hassle of travel. This has literally never happened to me at any hotel anywhere in the world: if I show up hours after the check-in time, I am given a key card and sent up to my room.
For $170/night, they need to do much, much better.
