| - I have fallen in love with Esenem Yoga!!! Don't be intimidated by the name, it simply stands for "Sweat and Movement", which you definitely will do. The only self-inflicted pain will be that on your conscience that you didn't go again this morning because you were so sore from doing yoga yesterday and the day before..... You get out of each class whatever you put into it. Classes are structured for the first time beginner to the advanced yogi.
Esenem Yoga is truly the "quintessential" yoga studio. The atmosphere is very friendly and upbeat and personable. The reception area is bright and cheerful. The studio has full length mirrors so you can continuously correct your form. However, if you grab a "permission block" from the reception area and put it next to your mat, this will tell your yoga instructor that you're open to correcting your pose.
No Sanskrit is used and the classes are choreographed to fun and uplifting music, not elevator music. If you arrive late or need to leave early, no problem. Class prices are reasonable, especially when you factor in the convenience fee for free ice, filtered water, yoga towel, and yoga mat. No rental fees. Plus, first class is free. My first 30 days was $30! The women's restroom is huge with 3 showers! Included is body wash, shampoo, conditioner, bath towels, bags for wet clothes, lotion, deodorant, razors, and hair ties if needed.
The classes offered are very diverse from your basic Hot60 or Hot90, carve, candlelit relaxing and restorative classes to unique classes for partners, AcroYoga, Hip Hop to working on your golf swing. They even have a weekly Community Class that only requests donations which are used to support local community charities. The diversity of classes attracts young and old(er) and men and women equally. Being able to touch your toes is by no means a prerequisite, but, give it a few classes and you'll be there in no time.
If it's your first time, I recommend taking Steve G's class, the owner of Esenem. I love his music playlist for the Warrior series of Hot60 not to mention the icy cold towels he puts in your hand at the end of class! Also, he never fails to teach me something new and inspirational about yoga and life!
