After seeing all of these 5 star reviews I feel bad giving it 3 stars but this place made me feel so uncomfortable. I'll preface this by saying I get a lot of anxiety when experiencing the "walk into the cafeteria and have no place to sit and no one is looking at you and you want to disappear" feeling. That's what I felt when I walked into this place one night after seeing a sign a few weeks earlier advertising "Virtual Reality Arcade."
First off, it smelled pretty bad...Like kids that have been sitting and sweating in the same chair for hours. My boyfriend and I walked in and it was like everyone in the place knew each other and were huddled around the tables laughing and playing video games. I'm not even sure if there are employees that work here or anything. Are arcades supposed to have employees? Guess I never thought about that... Anyways there are arcade games lined up along the walls and tables with consoles in the center of the room with more arcade games in a separate offshoot room. We walked around awkwardly looking for something to play but felt so out of place. I'll admit I'm definitely more of a retro gamer and enjoy old consoles and arcade games but basically have not played a new console since...PS2 with the exception of the Wii. I don't do panning/walking/multiple joysticks well.
I love A Gamer's Paradise and Pinball Hall of Fame nearby, but Press Start felt like an exclusive club of gamers that I did not belong to. I'm definitely not the kind of person that'll just go up and invite myself into a circle either. I will say it looked like everyone was having a lot of fun and if you love video games and bonding with gamers you will probably fit right in. Maybe I'll give it another shot during the day or something but I'm pretty traumatized by it right now :P
P.S. I saw no evidence of any VR games. But maybe I didn't look hard enough.
