| - The prie fixe lunch during Fall Restaurant Week was only $20.14 and it was a steal! The food was fantastic and rarely do I fully enjoy a meal from start to finish. The restaurant is beautiful and I love the atmosphere. Great spot for lunch with friends or dinner date with someone special. Elegant, but not stuffy.
Service was wonderful. Our server was friendly and engaging. Our glasses were never allowed to empty and the wait staff worked together harmoniously.
We started with complimentary bread: Green Olive Focaccia and Baguette with butter. I'm not typically a fan of green olives nor is Ruben, however, we really enjoyed its subtle flavors in the focaccia. It was a really lovely bread. The baguette was delicious as well. Both of them worked well alone and with the butter.
FIRST COURSE
Trio of Fennel: Fennel Royal with smoked salmon, Fennel Arancini with basil aioli, and fennel and navel orange salad. What a fan and fabulous dish to honor fennel! I love fennel, so it was real treat. The royal was really creamy and very subtle with fennel; worked perfectly with the smoked salmon (I would have liked more salmon, but who doesn't?). The arancini was delightful. Miniature little fried balls of yummy and the basil aioli was great. The salad was just as fantastic; crisp, refreshing - it worked really well with the Royal and the Arancini too.
Chilled Tomato Soup: Olive, cucumber, basil, and rosemary croutons. I'm not a huge fan of cold soups (I can deal with gazpachos because they're usually served in small portions). That aside, the soup had great flavor and Ruben really enjoyed it (the man LOVES soup).
SECOND COURSE
Short Rib Tagliatelle: Braised short rib, housemade pasta, summer vegetables, basil, Parmesan, and beef red wine jus. Let me started by saying that this dish is ridiculous... and I mean, ridiculously AMAZING! I'm just gonna say it: BEST PASTA DISH EVER. I may have had a better or equally good pasta in the past, but I've forgotten all about it after meeting SRT (yes, I can call him SRT). I want to scream it from the top of a mountain, it's that good. Okay, I've gone on enough. The details: The short rib is insanely tender and the sauce is so succulent (reminded me of a bolognese, which I LOVE). And that housemade tagliatelle, oh man. It was great. Perfectly al dente, of course. There was a lot of "Hmmmmm" and "OH. MY. GOD." while eating. Do yourself a favor and order this dish!
Chicken Paillard: Roasted carrots, spätzle, hazelnuts, arugula, and sauce diable. This was very tasty, but it's a good thing I tried this before I had my pasta. Anyway, the chicken was nice and I really liked the unexpected spätzle! Great sauce too.
THIRD COURSE
White Framboise: White chocolate chiffon, raspberry mousse, raspberry purée, and white chocolate crunch. The dome of white chocolate chiffon was delicious. The crust was really lovely and it wasn't overly sweet or heavy. I loved the tart raspberry purée and light mousse with the cake.
Trio of Sorbets: Cucumber, Watermelon, and Cantelope with fruit relish and shortbread cookies. Adorable presentation of light and refreshing sorbets. I didn't care for the cucumber one as much as I thought I would and my favorite was the cantelope (which I would normally not lean toward). But everything was still good and I loved the fruit relish featuring the same fruits (and vegetable) as the sorbets.
This is definitely a 4.5 - almost perfect - anchored by one of the best dishes I've ever eaten. I would come back JUST for the Short Rib Tagliatelle and gladly. Great news is that it's available on their Lunch Prie Fixe menu! In words of The Terminator: I'll be back.
