| - I gave the Animal Foundation 4 stars for a couple of reasons:
1) They are not affilitated with the American Humane Society or PETA. Both of those organizations produce animal abuse videos for fundraising purposes, although PETA has gotten more subtle over the years.
2) They are committed to saving the lives of animals, and have even developed the Community Cat program, in which feral or anti-social cats are spayed/neutered and released back into the community as a method opf controlling rat/mouse and squirel over population.
3) They have an outstanding resource in their Mojave Rd. facility and they are developing it (Pretty sure that's north las vegas). There are separate builldings for dogs versus cats and the reception/training area houses non-traditional pets such as rabbits, gerbils, snakes and birds (I think there is a bird building, not sure about that).
4) large farm animals are mostly put into foster placement at farms and facilities aways from downtown LasVegas.
5) They are not affiliated with LasVegas Animal Control, a very disfunctional bureaucracy.
Lost 1 star because I personally went to the facility to volunteer and maybe adopt a cat, and I got one phone call from the volunteer coordinator. She called me once and left a message, but didn't follow up again and never answered her phone when I tried to call her. This indicates to me that she's overworked and/or underpaid, so now I filled in a volunteer app on line and am going to attend an early May volunteer training. The place is so big, with so many buildings, that I had to go into 3 different facilities to get the information I needed. As a handicapped person with difficulty walking, this was unacceptable. Why are there only 2 volunteer training sessions a month? Are there dog training classes offered, like at Petsmart? Couldn't tell from their web site.
