  • RIBBONS TEA HOUSE IS LEGENDARY!! This is quickly becoming the go-to spot for all the locals and myself. Why? Let me explain. Ribbons is housed in a modest building with checkerboard flooring and efficient seating--nothing fancy. This isn't like Lux Central where dozens of Macbook-carrying hipsters can lounge around on old furniture while they write their hip screenplays and sneer at the less-cool-people-than-they-are walking through the door. Atmosphere is not what Ribbons prides itself in. Ribbons has substance. I'm not a tea person. I'm part Korean, but it's just never been my jig. I like drinks that are sweet. Not Starbucks-frappucino-sweet, but at least somewhat sweet. (Maybe my tastes have been Americanized, I don't know.) Fortunately, Ribbons has the tea for people who aren't accustomed to tea, like THAI TEA. It's a phenomenal drink that at first resembles black tea until milk is added to expose the true orange colors. Sure it's high on caffeine and probably calories, but it has an amazingly unique taste and often garners looks of curiosity from people who've never tried it. Also, they have BOBA! And it's not hard, freezer-burned boba. It's actually chewy and lightly-sweet boba, which is what boba should be! Some days I'll offset my indulgence in their Thai Tea with boba and Green Matcha cakes--which are also fantastic-- by consuming something lighter. I've tried several of the fresh-brewed teas: some kind of pomegranate, white dragon fruit, and more. All of them have been very, very good although I am guilty of adding sweetener. Again, I am NOT a tea person. I drink coffee almost everyday. But I'm starting to like tea more and more now. It also helps that Joel the owner is a great guy who always shows respect, utmost kindness, and a fine sense of humor. The same goes for his wife and the others who I've seen working there. It's amazing how far small acts of kindness go, and for me, that's what makes Ribbons truly special.
