Sorry guys, had to get on the board ASAP. Although I'm actually kinda pissed that I can't be the first to review because of a lame throwaway review back in November. Does a completely insane and spontaneous decision to fly to Vegas on Thursday at 10 PM and leave Friday at 6 AM JUST to see this superclub open not count for anything??? In any case, I do find it hilarious that my three sentence review garnered 7 useful votes and 5 cool votes immediately...love you Yelpers!
Full disclosure and caveats: As I didn't even get to Caesars until 11:30 PM and barely snuck in at 12 AM, I did not get a chance to see Heart of Omnia or the outside area. Not that it would've made much of a difference in my review because we all know why we come to Omnia, but still...putting that out there. I will say that the fact that an outside area does actually exist will rescue this club from 1-star purgatory like a certain club located in MGM Grand that is also owned by the same group.
Anyways, the club itself. I've seen a lot of stuff in time and I'm not easily impressed anymore. But when my promoter buddy sent me a video from the soft opening, I was like O_O IMMEDIATELY. Radar on for sure! My thoughts:
1. This club is about the same size as Hakkasan, but it just feels bigger and way more majestic. Fixed many of the design flaws that plague Hakkasan (which I've graciously noted in my updated review of it), including the highest possible ceiling you can think of, bigger bar areas, WAY bigger dance floor (I'll make a more specific note of this below), an outside area, and of course NO STAIRS to the dance floor (ok, there are stairs but those are to get out of the dance floor...and it's on the DJ side of the floor, so they don't even count). I could gripe about the crowded walkways, but eh that's pretty much every club aside from Drai's. Good job Hakkasan Group, you got this one right.
2. As much as one can be for a Vegas dance floor, I am a fan of this dance floor. The one good thing that Hakkasan does have is an awesome sound system. Omnia certainly has it right here as well. Four three-speaker panel arrays on each quadrant (NW, NE, SW, SE) of the dance floor. Bang on nasty. And 12-way cryo bombs every time the drop comes hahaha! I didn't realize it until after I left, but the temperature control was absolutely perfect. Never felt overheated or unbearably uncomfortable the entire time I was on there. Major kudos for making this happen.
3. I greatly thank the designer for giving balcony level one side for the common folk! One of the more underrated annoying things about Hakkasan is that it's completely made for tables. Dance floor level is a cavern of tables, and same goes for the balcony. But at least here, the balcony has tables on the side and open space for people to check out the dance floor/DJ/chandelier. Oh and the bar is right behind it. Thanks for making life way easier!
4. Oh and the big elephant in the room...is it a spaceship or a COMPLETELY INSANE $30 MILLION LED CHANDELIER? From any part of the club, you simply cannot your eyes off this mammoth piece of art. Not even kidding, it straight up looks like it's out of Zanarkand from Final Fantasy X (as does this entire club). The tricks this thing can do, I can't even describe. My pictures don't do this chandelier justice, you have to see it for yourself.
5. Not that it makes a difference for this review (see how much my love for Hardwell influenced my Hakkasan review), but when you have HELLA favorites of mine here? Armin van Buuren (YES), Martin Garrix, Nicky Romero, Showtek, and of course CALVIN HARRIS. Let's put it this way...I wasn't going to be doing an 8-hour shotgun trip to Omnia opening night if Calvin Harris wasn't there.
I was torn on whether to give Omnia a 4-star or a 5-star (in fact, the original three-sentence review was a 4-star). But after mulling it over for two days, I can't deny how awesome this club is. My friends saw all my videos and their jaws dropped too, so I'm like...welps, can't deny the truth!
The real question about whether to come back is not if, but when and how soon. I still can't even!
