| - Exactly what it should be!
I saw the show three years ago and thought 'great idea, but tired. Wish I had seen it in its heyday'
Recent rumors of the 'revised' production made me concerned that the run might finally be ending.
Well, folks - there is a new heyday! From what I could tell, most of the original show has been re-restored. No stripper poles, no unintelligible story. Just a lot of extremely talented performers, workin' hard!
The singing has been greatly improved, with some powerhouse pipes up there! Most of the ensemble vocals are still obviously tracked, but the lead singers are live and amazing!
The dancing was tight and top-notch - quite worthy of the longest-running show on The Strip. The high kicks up there could make the Rockettes a little nervous.
The Men's Ensemble has never been better. Handsome young guys who know when to strut their stuff, and when to give focus to the glamor and beauty that is the main focus of the show. And that, of course, is the Showgirl!
There were a couple of small missteps. A pre-recorded tap number?? For gods sake, why? Also, though it was performed beautifully, a ballet/Agnes de Mille-modern piece performed to a "Dies Irae" track was strangely out of place.
Thankfully, the old "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" epic has been removed, along with a couple other dated numbers - tightening the overall pace of the show.
To sum up: a better-than-ever production of a Vegas Classic! Yes, it is old-school and over-the-top campy, but isn't that what you came to see?
Congratulations, Jubilee!! Here's to another 30 years!!
