| - This past Tuesday, I was feeling adventurous in dining. I wanted to try someplace new. I set out for a dining adventure at Thelma's Filipino Restaurant. What really made this adventurous dining is that this was my first meal in a Filipino Restaurant. My real-life and Yelp friend Shirley. B would be my adventure guide in my very first dining experience in a Filipino restaurant. In similar style to a first-rate adventure guide, Shirley. B did some research on the food that I appreciate. She concluded that I have reviewed plenty of Chinese restaurants. Consequently, she matched three of the four items with an entree and appetizers that I have ordered in Chinese restaurants. We shared a plate of pancit mix (similar to chow mien noodles), beef vegetable lumpias (similar to egg rolls), garlic fried rice, and BBQ pork on sticks. Thelma's makes sharing easy. They provided serving spoons and extra plates to share the food. This eliminated the worry about germs that many diners have. Thelma also made the pace of dining relaxed by bringing out the different items separately. My favorite item was the pancit mix. If I wasn't dining here with Shirley. B, from looking at the pictures that yelpers posted, the pancit mix and the garlic fried rice would have been the dishes I ordered. Although, pancit mix is a different entree than noodle style chow mien,it was just as delicious. Anchoring each side of the plate was a lemon, that I did not need to squeeze to add flavor to the noodles. What can I really say about garlic fried rice besides it tasting similar to white rice with a garlic flavor? The lumpias tasted similar to the delectable egg rolls that are my usual appetizer before the entree. Finally, the BBQ pork sticks tasted similar to the BBQ food that I have enjoyed in L&L BBQ. I tasted the quality in each bite of the meat that was more taste than messiness. Complimenting the food was bottomless cola.
The trail-head for this dining adventure is a restaurant located in a small strip mall in the shadow of the colossal Sunset Station Casino & Hotel. It is off Sunset Road just west of the Marks Street traffic signal and Gold Rush Casino. Thelma's faces the Sunset Station Hotel and Casino. The inside of Thelma's looks more similar to L&L BBQ than an elegant restaurant. The elegance is the deliciousness of the food. To kick off this dining adventure, there are menus along a partition separating the cue from the kitchen. It is in a spot where nobody is watching over you, and you can take your time. The adventure initiates when you order your food and pay. If you are drinking a soft drink, they hand you a cup that you serve yourself. Ultimately they deliver the food for your dining adventure.
In my opinion yelping is about being an adventurist in dining that tries new places, then shares them through reviewing. Its very similar to the concept of living life as an adventure. In my pursuit of living life as an adventure I will occasionally step out of my comfort zone by trying cuisines and restaurants that I never experienced, then ultimately sharing these experiences. With that said, "Thank you Shirley. B for being a fantastic guide in adventurous dining."
