On a recent trip to Pittsburgh I asked my traveling companion- "what's one thing you really want to do while we're here?" Her response was- "I want a cream puff" Huh? Where the hell did that come from...it turned out to be the best challenge I've solved in quite a while. After some quick Googling all roads seemed to lead to La Gourmandine.
Turns out- it is a quaint little French bakery in Lawrenceville. Rather a delicious delicious soooo delicious bakery. What didn't we try? We sat in the cafe and enjoyed coffee with quiche while watching the never ending line swell then dissipate. After finishing breakfast we joined the quay and proceeded to order one of just about every pastry in the shop to go. It turned out to be a great decision. One pastry was better then another. To name a few- Citron tart, Marquis, mini bouche noel, eclair, croissant of every kind, and of course the whole reason we walked through the door- cream puff.
On my next visit to Pittsburgh I will for sure make a point of getting myself a little box of magic either to enjoy in the shop or take it to go.
