| - The last meal of our Work required event, and we were brought over to Smith and Wollensky. It was a sight to behold as over 200 people traipsed from our hotel, down the side walk, through the cross walk and up the other side of the street to the Eatery. People were stopping and staring and I couldn't help but giggle some.
The location is directly across the street from the Monte Carlo Hotel, and it's a lovely 3 story building, white and gray, it appears spartan on the outside, but on the inside its decorated with dark woods, nautical decor and photographs.
We were taken to a holding area on the 2nd floor, where drinks and apps were passed. Since I was squeezed into a small corner, I didn't get to try everything, but what I did try - the crab cake - was absolutely decadent, and by now, you know how I feel about sea food. I also got a Rum & Diet, and it appears they only were using top shelf. (ooh la la - so didn't want to see the bill for liquor.. sheesh)
We were then brought into our room and seated, long tables where everyone was seated into different group. Friends sat with friends if they got in early enough, or if you were like my husband and myself, you sat where you could. We ended up at a table where he knew a few people and I made a few new friends, including the Estonian support group.
The food was delicious. We started with red or white wine, and bread was offered to the table, they were decadent little rolls topped with garlic butter, served in what I can only describe as Monkey bread style. Then our salads came around, crisp ceasar salads topped with almost literal sheets of parmigan cheese and a crustini that had an olive tepanade on it - this was delicious.
The mains were a choice of a Fillet Mignon, a Stuffed Chicken breast or Pasta Alfredo. My own personal choice was the fillet, served Medium, with a side of mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. It was decadent, you could totally cut the steak with your butter knife, and the meat was - I don't know the spice blend but lordy, it was melt in your mouth amazing. The sides were so good as well.
Dessert was New York style cheesecake, though for me, I didn't find that it was exactly New York style, it was lighter, fluffier... It would have been made better with either caramel or chocolate.. otherwise it was a tasty end to the meal, when paired with rich Lavasa Coffee. YUM.
