| - mall in itself is good. much nicer after they renovated a few years back.
winners and walmart are the main stores i go to, and sometimes food basics.
winners has a decent selection, but as always you need to get real lucky to get a good find. I bought a pair of tretorn rainboots for about $30 once and was so stoked!
walmart is like any other walmart. much better than target! ;) maybe a bit smaller than most locations though.
food basics is alright, but not too much selection.
staples is good if there's a good sale. otherwise it's overpriced in my opinion. much rather look online - ebay, newegg, canada computers...just some thoughts!
now, the reason why i am posting this review. if i could give a 0 star rating to a specific store, I would. (un)fortunately, yelp is too kind.
the dollar store next to staples is just atrocious. I have been coming here infrequently, but still consistently enough over the years. I've never had a problem before, as it was just 1) go in, 2) get what I'm looking for (and maybe a couple other things), 3) pay, 4) leave, 5) be happy at how much I saved.
I'd recently bought a bike light that I thought was a red light (red coating = red light, decent assumption??). It was actually white, so I went back to exchange it a few days later (I had work so couldn't go in any sooner). The first lady I spoke to immediately told me nope, can't do anything about it goodbye (in a condescending manner). she then ignored me completely and served the next customer. I asked if there was anyone I could speak to and she said they're all on break. whether they actually were or not, I'll never know. I came back after ~15 minutes, and spoke to a different lady. she called someone who I assume is a manager, and he told me the same thing that they can't do anything about it, it's their policy, goodbye.
needless to say, I will never return here. it was a $4 (&tax) purchase - not the biggest deal. I gave the light to my friend to use as I don't ever want to see it again, that shows how much I care about the cost. really it was just the principle of being in the retail industry, that they are supposed to be helpful to their customers. at least act helpful, rather than rude, obnoxious, indifferent, or actually quite annoyed. at this rate I'd rather spend a full $10 for the lights at Sportchek.
go dollarama go! please avoid the gerrard square dollar store at all cost.
