| - After a few days in Las Vegas, anything other than more casino food was a welcome idea. A friend of mine had apparently been to this place, and when he described it as a hot pot joint where food comes out on a conveyor belt for you to choose as little or as much as you want to eat, it was a pretty easy decision for the rest of us to agree to try this place out ourselves.
Being a dirty tourist, I can't speak for the location other than the fact that it was roughly a 20 minute ride using an Uber to get there from the south end of the Strip. We ended up in what appeared to be very Asian part of town based on the stores rapidly changing from English to various Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese names. Eventually we arrived at our destination which was inside of a pretty packed and busy shopping plaza.
The interior of Chubby Cattle is very light, bright and welcoming. Immediately upon entrance, you'll see the conveyor belt rolling adjacent to several booths, with lots of little plates containing various vegetables, dumplings, proteins and noodles. We were lucky to not have a substantial wait, and were seated pretty quickly. Service was quick, and gracious about explaining their process and pricing.
Basically, broth can be ordered individually or to share, and they come in a variety of spices and flavors. Larger portions of meat can be ordered, raw, to which you will dunk them in boiling broth for a minute or so, before they can be eaten. The conveyor belt has small portions of a wide variety of foods that are also cooked in the broth from anywhere from 2-4 minutes. The color of the plates determine what each plate costs, and at the end of the meal, servers count and tally up all the plates at your table.
It's a pretty unique idea as far as I'm concerned, as the only place I'd ever encountered conveyor belts were sushi restaurants. But the idea applies wonderfully to hot pot, and I have a lot of admiration for a place like Chubby Cattle at executing it in the way that they did.
Overall, I was very pleased with the dining experience, and I ate generously for roughly about $20 spent. I had a wide variety of noodles, dumplings and lots of meat, and don't feel like I got shortchanged or cheated in any fashion. Service was outstanding and friendly, and this is the kind of place that I'd tell my friends about, and actually want to come back to in future Vegas trips.
