  • Based on other reviews of this hotel me and my friend almost didn't stay here...We decided to go on up to the Mountain anyways to celebrate my birthday. In doing a little research, I decided to ask for a room facing the pond. Our room was very clean, cheerful and pleasant. Not a 5 star experience, think "Lodge" experience. Very nice small electric fireplace which actually put out a bit of heat, and lovely view of the pond, the mountains and the quaint church on the hill. We got to the resort at around 1:30. Asked to check in early but were told it would be an extra $25. Check in is at 4 but they would allow people to get into their rooms by 2:30 no extra charge. We decided to take a quick hike for an hour, and waited to check in until later. Happy hour in their bar is from 3 to 7pm. We ordered two Cabernet's. House wine. It was decent and two Cab's for $7, it was priced very well! We asked the front desk guy if they would turn on the fireplace in the lobby...They did and it added a lot of charm and atmosphere to an otherwise cold feel to their lobby. We chose to play cards next to the fire after our dinner in their restaurant. We felt very much at home just hanging out and relaxing with our glasses of wine and playing cards. We had dinner and breakfast at the resort. The food was very good although the ribs were a little tough. The "salted" baked potato was fantastic, as were the vegetables. They should cook the ribs all day so they are more tender. My friend had the filet mignonon and it was fantastic!! We both had the steak and eggs for breakfast. My steak was very good, wonderful seasoning. My friends steak was over cooked, so they brought her another one and it was very good as well. The service was odd...Not terrible, just odd. Whatever...The food was good. We stayed at the resort on the $99 package which is a GREAT deal. However...They do charge a $12 resort fee per day, and they charge you taxes on your meals. Also, drinks (even coffee, soda, tea, orange juice) are extra. FYI: When the front desk tells you, you can order ANYTHING off the menu, that means TWO MEALS, no appetizer, no drinks and no dessert. So we would receive a 'bill' at the end of each meal. Be sure and tip your servers, that is not included!! People from Europe do not usually tip (I know this, because I worked as an Esthetician on the Strip for 8 years...They never tip), so please give your server a little something extra.... Be aware that the picnic areas charge $12 per carload. Even if you just want to drive through to see it, you have to pay. A 'sensor' will track you, so you HAVE to pay even if you try to turn around and not go through. So: Be aware. Very annoying. We hiked Fletcher Canyon, and Cathedral Rock. Good weather too! We brought a cooler with our own snacks, bottled water and wine. So glad we did because there isn't one single grocery or convenience store on the mountain. Next time I would bring a small coffee pot and coffee. No coffee pot or fridge in the rooms. $3 for coffee in the restaurant. I need my coffee in the mornings and I do not want to have to walk to the restaurant and wait for it.
