| - NEVER COME HERE. UNTRUSTWORTHY.
-Summary-
My second attempt to redeem a Groupon at Fletcher's went even worse than the first. Not only did they refuse to do the services described on the deal, but they also invented imaginary issues (dirty rear breaks, dirty fluids) in an attempt to ask us to pay more than $400 in addition to our deal. When we went to leave, our battery was dead and the nuts on the tires too tight for us to remove and do the necessary work ourselves. We ended up having to pay someone else to remove our tires! Not safe. Terrible experience. We will never go back.
-Detail-
(Here I contain the details of our experience if you care to read them. The above review should also adequately explain my position on this company's services.)
My husband does most of the work on our cars, but as he was recently sick and our brakes needed looked at I purchased a Fletcher's deal to try and give him a break. The deal included (semi-metalic) brake pads, resurfacing of front or rear rotors, an oil change & filter, tire rotation, and a brake system check, so I thought we were set. I called ahead to their location on Broadway and Power road, and was told they would accept my Groupon and there was no wait.
Needless to say my experience there was terrible (expanded upon in another review). Thinking it was a fluke, I went home where my husband and I did our rear brake job ourselves for a quarter of the price that Assistant Manager quoted (after bringing down the price as low as he was willing).
I took the car again to get the front brakes done the next week at the Alma School Rd location south of the 60. When I arrived at around 10:30am the receptionist was helpful and confirmed their location would redeem the Groupon deal I had purchased. A guy took the car back immediately. Before I left I saw my car jacked up in the shop with all four tires off.
After dropping the car off it was two hours (1pm) before we got the call. We were shocked that they wanted over $400 to replace the front pads and the rotors (which they said were too worn down to resurface), clean our rear brakes (brand new and cleaned as of five days before), and flush our brake fluid (which was also checked five days prior). All this in addition to the cost of the Groupon!
We did not agree to the price and the receptionist offered $395. When we still weren't happy she asked if she could call us back. Twenty minutes later she gave us the price of $190... for the same service, minus the unnecessary brake fluid flush.
The initial quote made the new price seem like a bargain, but we still were not willing to pay, and they would not honor our Groupon deal for new pads without selling us new rotors. Something felt fishy, and given our previous experience, I expected to be able to get the job done for less than half the price they were offering. I'd already given up on using my $70 Fletcher's Groupon. By then I also had to get ready to leave for work, so we decided to pick up the car and try again yet another day.
When we arrived a man at the desk gave us our keys and we tried to head home... but then the car didn't start. We were left outside Fletcher's in almost 110-degree heat at 2:30 in the afternoon.
After seeing us troubleshooting the issue one of the mechanics stopped his work to jump our car (thanks again!) and we were off to the nearest O'Reilly's. By then I had to call out at work and we found out there was a new issue with our voltage regulator. Pricing it out, we decided to replace the alternator ourselves along with the breaks. Our overall cost for the brakes was $60, leaving the other two-thirds or so ($130) of the quoted price for the "kit" to change the breaks (unnecessary, and have never heard of a need for this before or since), shop supplies, and labor.
If that wasn't ridiculous enough, when we went to complete the relatively simple job of replacing our brakes, we could not remove the tires. The lug nuts had been put on so tight neither myself, my husband, or my father could remove them with a tire iron or ratchet. We did not have access to a breaker bar or one of those fancy pneumatic drivers to aid in removing the lugs. After two hours we gave up and had to wait until the next day to send our car to a professional from A+ Auto Doctor (fabulous people!), where we finally are getting taken care of.
NEVER GO TO ANY FLETCHER'S LOCATION! I am convinced they are scammers taking advantage of people who don't know they can get parts cheaper down the street for themselves, or get significantly better service elsewhere. Do all you can to avoid this, and any other location if you can. I'm thankful some people seem to have had a much better experience than we did!
