When I walked in, I had flashbacks of older bistros in less touristy areas of France.
The menu however was a little strange. The only entree available is a steak with their special sauce, which I think is a variation of Dijon sauce.
The steak was cooked medium rare just right but it's a thinner sirloin cut that tasted a little cheap and overpowered by the sauce. To be honest, I thought it was kind of appropriate since I have had very similarly bad steaks in Paris. The whole let a thick slab of beef speak for itself thing isn't quite as pervasive in France yet. The steak coming with only French fries though was definitely unusual and decidedly not French. Eight the Dijon sauce, I thought it tasted like deconstructed poutine.
Soup was fine. Tomato juice tasted like tomato juice. Salad was just lettuce leaves with pretty typical dressing.
If not for the dessert, I'd have given 2 stars.
The dessert however was excellent. It was basically an ice cream puff (with croissant pastry I think) covered by chocolate. Very delicious, along the lines of a very good eclair with ice cream fillings and extra chocolate.
I think I'll love this place as a place to chat all night over wine but I will pass on the food next time.
