One thing about Toronto is there are no decent Filipino restaurants in this city. Most west coast cities, like LA, SF and VAN, have a ton of outposts and franchises of successful Manila restaurants. My theory is that these restauranteurs don't want to freeze their buns off in Toronto. If you know of a good Filipino restaurant in Toronto (and I'm hoping you do), please Yelp me.
Brown Sugar is a tiny little Filipino catering business out by south Etobicoke. It has a little counter where you can take-out some Filipino dishes that are mainly overage from the catering orders. There' no where to sit and there's usually a line-up in the weekends of Filipinos who are picking up their catering orders.
I ordered a bunch of dishes for a party last week and the food was (as always) good. We ordered pork barbeque skewers that were tasty but over-marinated. The "Lumpias" (Filipino eggrolls) were properly crispy. The "Palabok" (Filipino noodle dish made with shrimp sauce) was the best I've had in Toronto. Finally, a warm dessert dish called "Ginataan" that's made with coconut milk and fruits.
We fed 30 people for just $185 and the food was ready and steaming hot when we picked it up.
