Such a bummer - Not a fan of leaving 1 star reviews. I grew up in NY and Carvel is the gold standard of ice cream for me. I frequented this location many, many times under the old management. We had ordered scooped ice cream, soft serve, cakes, etc... The kids and I stopped for ice cream after it was under new ownership and could tell instantly that things had changed.
The light over the ice cream section was out/hanging and the counter behind the ice cream had stuff piled all over it (boxes, papers, etc). The hard ice cream in the tubs was old looking/half empty and several had ice crystals growing on the obviously freezer burned ice cream. We all opted to order soft serve. The guy behind the counter couldn't really even figure out how to get the ice cream machine moving. When he finally did, the cones were beyond bizarre looking (totally all over the place, huge loops, etc and the ice cream itself was very wet and melty as it was coming out). The kids asked for sprinkles and he didn't even have any open so he balanced our melting, floppy looking cones on the back counter and went to search for sprinkles. By the time he got back all he could do was gently sprinkle a few sad sprinkles on each cone because if he moved them too much the ice cream would have plopped off.
Totally sad about losing this fabulous Carvel. I did send an email to corporate but as each location is independently run it probably won't do much good. Sad thing is - if this was your visit to a Carvel you would think it was nasty.
