| - I booked this hotel for my birthday trip to Cedar Point and stayed the night of after traveling to the park from Ontario. I'd spent the night before in Michigan, and the awesome hotel there (which cost a good bit less) really colors the review this one will receive. By comparison, the other hotel (which is part of my birthday trip reviews) was stunning--clean and much less dated. I was surprised to find that this hotel, which was higher on the price point offered so much less.
The price was more than I wanted to spend, but there was a pool (a must for me) and even though there was no hot tub (disappointing) I thought why not treat myself for my special day.
Check in was awesome. Cynthia was so nice. Personable and helpful. I give her a separate 5 stars outside this review. I asked if she wanted my 2-bed room--sometimes hotels need those more for other guests. I'm not using the other bed and prefer a king. She did make the switch, which was really nice for both of us. She even put one quarter of the charge for incidentals on my card than what Expedia lists.
The room and hallways were dated. There were stains on the carpet everywhere. The property really needs a remodel and some upgrades for what they charge.
The little couch in my room had a stain on it that looked like blood. Needless to say, I did not sit on it at all. I did take a picture.
The room was large and it was mostly clean. There was a free water bottle for members of the Radisson rewards program. I had just joined when I arrived, so I left it as I didn't want to take a chance on getting dinged for it. There was a VERY small fridge, smaller than the previous hotel and the carpet and furnishings were dingy by comparison when the other hotel had been so bright, beautiful and perfect at a lower price point.
The staff was not as friendly. That front desk clerk was top notch, but every other employee I saw looked unhappy and didn't smile back. There was a maid in the hallway in the morning who didn't return my greeting and just looked away. Maybe she was having a bad day? But it still made me feel weird.
Christine also advised me that the pool was 'full of kids' upon check-in, so I waited until the next morning to swim. Good choice. The pool was empty and I had a very peaceful swim that helped me start the day off great. I will also mention that the pool looked murky...the other pool hotel had water that was much clearer, looked cleaner.
I will also mention that when I pulled the comforter back that morning there were two very visible blood spots on the inside. It made my skin crawl. There was also a spot on the shower curtain. For the price they are charging, clean that sofa and don't use the stained sheets/comforter and shower curtain. Eww.
The phone had a button for room service. Did they actually have room service? I don't know. There was no menu, so it would be very hard to order.
Aside from the stains, the room was...adequate. The bed was a little hard for my taste but it didn't hurt my hip as other more firm beds have. One of the reasons I booked the room was that the Expedia page mentioned Sleep by Number beds. Well, I didn't have one of those, so that was disappointing as well.
Would I stay here again? Definitely a NO. Not worth the price paid. Kind of like charging lobster price for a cod fillet. It was okay and not a horrible stay, but not what I expected. They did provide plenty of towels and amenities like lotion, shampoo, etc. The in-room coffee was fantastic. Oh yeah, and the fridge froze my cream and water bottles solid!
