  • We had hired WonderMaids previously and were happy with the extent of the cleaning and the attention to detail. On that basis, we proceeded to book WonderMaids for a cleaning prior to having company at our home this coming Saturday. As we were planning on leaving for vacation on Sunday, it was a relief to know that, with everything else on our plates, the house cleaning would be taken care of and in shape for company to come over on Saturday. We booked a Thursday appointment at 1 PM. Twenty minutes after our scheduled 1 PM cleaning, I received an email at 1:19 PM indicating that an emergency had come up and that the cleaning could be done the following Tuesday. I responded and said thank you for the email. I explained that we had company coming, and I would need to find a replacement cleaning service able to do a next-day cleaning. I received no e-mail in response. A cleaning service is intended to fill a need for people who are too busy to deal with these types of tasks, and need outside help. When I had a million other things on my plate to handle for work prior to leaving the country for a week, I instead spent the majority of a full business day calling cleaning services to do the job WonderMaids was supposed to do, with less than one hour's notice. Ironically, WonderMaids' own cancellation policy is as follows: "We require 24 hours' notice of any cancellation or rescheduling. If you cancel with less than 24 hours' notice, or if we can't enter your home at your appointed time, we reserve the right to charge you a $49 late cancellation fee." While the cleaning was satisfactory, I do not have time for businesses that do not value their clients' time. I understand that emergencies happen. As a business, it is important to prepare for those. It was in particularly poor taste that Wondermaids charges a $49 fee if a client cancels with less than 24 hours' notice - but I couldn't even get an email back for their cancellation on less than 10 minutes' notice - let alone the several hours I spent calling other cleaning services when I should have been billing my own clients. I will not use this service again.
