| - I've been a member to this studio for years. This place USED TO have amazing teachers that have helped me get into the yoga life I have now. I'll be forever grateful for their teaching and guidance through my practice. I kept renewing at this studio because its cheaper compares to other studios. Even though the good teachers have slowly fading out of here. I know I have a good foundation so I am ok with continuing taking classes at this place with instructors that are not as great. BTW, good teachers have almost disappeared from this place because they're not well taken care of by the horrible studio owner and no one wants to work with and for him. He's always argumentative and rude from I've seen at the counters. I have no choice but to take classes from some newer instructors and some of them are beyond embarrassing.
I took a 60 min. class the other day, the teacher was so focusing on the newbies and completely ignored what the rest of the class was doing, and by the time we finished the standing series, it's already 45 mins into the class, so of course she rushed through the 2nd part of the class and went over time. One side of the pose we'd hold for 1.5 minutes while she's talking to others and the other side we'd hold for 30 sec because she wasn't talking. No concept of time management.
I had to try another new teacher the next day and just as bad too. We were holding poses for only 15 seconds and he spent more time telling jokes and practicing his comedy bits in between poses. I'm there to do my moving mediation, at a zen place, I don't need him to remind ppl not to "twerk" or make references to Star Wars (trust me, I am a Star Wars fan) and monkeys at a swap meet. WTH? Thank goodness I know what I am doing, but many of the newer yogis don't and they heavily relied on the teacher's dialogues. He didn't even say a lot of things that he's supposed to say for the inexperienced folks to do the right thing during pose, frankly it's dangerous.
The lack of experienced teachers at this place, how they crammed people in classroom, no education/discipline on new comers (people come in and out of the room during class, bring cell phones, phone actually rings in class) are signs of this place going downhill fast.
Yesterday, the owner decided that he's MANDATORY charging everyone a $2 fee (aka tips) when you take a class. You pay that fee or you can't go in. Tipping has always been strongly encouraged and recommended at this studio because the fees are lower and we need to reward the good teachers. Even the website states "tipping is completely voluntary and greatly appreciated" (he did remove that line yesterday because of too many angry customers) and now he says it's always been mandatory. BS!He says we have to pay up because we wouldn't want his studio to close. I think he should go ahead and close its door, and to face himself being a failure on running a business. He might be an ok chiropractor (so he claims, who knows, I sure don't go to him) but definitely shouldn't be a studio owner.
When I requested yesterday that I want to discontinue my membership and want a refund of the remainder balance because although I do tip the teachers often, I disagreed with how he changed studio policy with less than 24-hour notice and changed the term of our contracts with this bs mandatory fee. His previous bad business decision and poor planning caused him be in this situation today, why should I get punished for his failure and I absolutely have the rights to opt out my contract. He said maybe he will get to my request by March, 2016. Are you for real? The owner compares his instructors to waiters at restaurants, he argues that if we go to a restaurant, we're required to tip, so tipping his instructors is required because we are receiving service. Well, I am not stupid enough to keep going back to eat at the same BAD and HORRIBLY RUN restaurant, keep asking for bad waiters and be forced to TIP.
If the teachers were still awesome, studios been cleaned, and I'm receiving the same good quality at this place, I wouldn't mind paying more, but quantity way surpasses quality at this studio for sure. BTW, he told me that I have the wrong attitude towards his new change, I should take a deep breath and just go with it, like how I do in yoga practice. May I ask him and his teachers to do the same, take a deep breath and go with the fact maybe he/she sucks at their jobs so they're not getting tips they deserved and maybe the owner should take care of his employees and not the clients! Ridiculous way of running a business, horrible human being King is.
