| - Ugh. My $500 Prada sneakers came undone. The whole left side where the leather is attached to the sole. You'd think Prada sneakers would be a bit more robust but then I imagine they assume anyone wearing their products isn't trudging through ice and snow, standing on bus stops in the rain, etc. People who buy Prada jump in their BMW, zip to the office or lunch, go from heated parking garage to heated parking garage...
Anyway, I don't really, really want to blow another $500 so I thought I'd take them to this place which is near my Goodlife gym. Says Y&F Shoe Repair on the sign, mind you.
Seems like a 50ish Korean man and his mother man this kiosk. I don't think the mother speaks any English. The Korean male is reasonably fluent. One thing is for certain, he takes a lot of pride in shoes and his craftsmanship. He looked at my shoes for a while, scolded me a considerable amount on the lousy care I take and all the preventative measures I could have taken, and then suggested a way to repair it. He gave me a ticket, asked for a deposit about half the value of the repair. I only had about $5 cash as I was going to the gym and don't really bring cash with me to the gym so I left that.
Anyway, went back a week later. The shoe was good as, well, not new (they were pretty dusted up) but you would have no clue there was ever a tear.
I'll be back to see what he can do with my Burberry sneakers now...
Docking a star for the possible language difficulty. Even being familiar with ESL, I did need to spend some time to decode what he was saying.
Oh yeah, this is a cash only business. No credit cards or debit.
