| - As a courier, I need to be quasi close to the airport and this was my home for a while. I'd stay anywhere from 2-9 days at a time. The rooms are clean, the staff (especially the night staff) are always a pleasure to talk to. While it's pretty clear, the place is older and it isn't in the greatest area, I never felt unsafe. There is a shopping center almost adjacent that has two night clubs resulting in a high police presence, but in all my nights of staying, never had a problem with undesirables or anything. Never saw their lights flashing, never heard of any car break ins (cameras all over the parking lot and reasonably well lit although it could be better). I actually LIKE the bird sanctuary. There is a cozy little bar and a restaurant.
HOWEVER........
Room 231 a/c doesn't work too well. They had to move me. Wouldn't be bad in the winter, but AZ summers are grueling and that room doesn't get below 80.
I usually pay for the following day very late at night (between 2-4am) and a few times, they didn't update their housekeeping schedule and have been walked in on by housekeeping!! Yikes! So I learned to keep my Do Not Disturb sign in the door at all times and I now remind them to update the housekeeping schedule when I pay. Personally I don't think I should have to tell them how to do their job, but yeah it's just something I've learned to do to avoid future embarrassment.
The wifi works 95% of the time so that's okay.
The pine needles from the trees caught on fire last week on the roof of the west side of the building. No huge amount of damage I'm guessing since I wasn't evacuated and everything looks okay from the outside.
Also, don't get a room next to the stairs. You can hear the thunder of everyone going up and down and if you're a late sleeper like me, it's not a great sound to wake up to.
The walls are thin, so you'll hear if the people next door are having sex, arguing, their tv, if they're on the phone and yes, if you're in the tiny bathroom, you can hear the guy in the next room taking a shit. Once there was a lady pacing up and down the walkway (upstairs) fighting with her boyfriend on the phone at 1am. I had to ask them to speak to her. You can hear all the little kids splashing and shouting at the pool. The sound of children playing doesn't bother me so much though.
I kept going back because the people always treated me well until there was an accidental double charge on my card. I was told that it would be reversed, but it actually cleared. Now I understand that mixups happen, especially when you pretty much live in a hotel/motel, but the way Nicole handled the situation was enough for me to never return. I tried to resolve the issue by calling the front desk, she said I needed to have the credit card company call. We got on 3way and after 2 failed attempts due to poor connection, the third was successful but I had to shout for Nicole to hear me. She kept insisting that she could only see one charge and I gave her two different transaction numbers (in differing amounts) and she screamed "I'm not trying to cheat you!!!!" and hung up on me. When I tried to call back, she refused to answer the phone. I called the corporate office and they called her. She claimed to be the General Manager and corporate said I needed to fax the statement which I did immediately and sent an email to the REAL General Manager Christine along with the statement.
I'm sure this will all be resolved but as long as Nicole is there, I will not be back. There are too many other places who will appreciate my $1300 a month business for me to waste my time with a hateful and angry person. At the very least, she could've said that she would let the manager know my concern and just pass it off to her instead of being such a bitch.
