  • My mom and I received about 10 quotes to replace our hot water heater at our rental property we co-own in Phoenix, it should be noted that my mother and her partner are elderly and are not always in the know about contractor hiring. I couldn't get to the property to supervise this particular day, so my mother's partner met this company to let the contractor inside to quote. 9 out of 10 companies we received quotes from estimated the entire job at $2200 or less! I have documentation to support this. This company came in at a whopping $5039 and charged 79 dollars for the 10 minutes of their time it took to do a visual estimate! No other company charges us a single penny to estimate! This company is dishonest. Replacing a water heater by a seasoned plumber should only take about 2-3 hours according to the other plumbers I met . This company is basically charging 1000 dollars an hour and were clearly taking advantage of older citizens who don't know better. Update based on company comment: the exorbitant quote I was referring to is the bid I got for a 50 gal hybrid electric water. The sunny plumber estimated this item at $5039. As I should have clarified before the highest bid I got for the same/similar heater was around 2200. And 2200 is still steep! The water heater itself (with mark up) shouldn't exceed 1500 at the expensive end and then 500 for labor for 3 hours (also at the expensive end). I am referring to that quote specifically amidst the multiple quotes sent for various jobs. And maybe call around and check with other companies what they charge for a service fee because 79 dollars steep just to show up at somebody's house. It's just a means of obligating your client to take an overpriced bid. 79 dollars? Basically you have your customer buy you a FULL tank of gas for coming to a Phoenix location while you're located in Phoenix? While many companies charge nothing to quote?
