| - This was our fourth time dining here over a number of years and I have to say, it just keeps getting better! Fantastic service, fantastic ambiance, and fabulous food. We love this place and often dine here for special occasions like our anniversary or a special birthday. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu.
On this visit, we enjoyed some of their specialty cocktails (get the Black Manhattan if you like bourbon/rye drinks - YOWZA!) and a few small plates. The food here is prepared so artfully and while the appetizer/small plate portions are small, they are meant to be savored. The roasted mushroom with garlic puree on grilled bread was divine and the grilled squid over arugula with pickled cantaloupe, bacon jowl and blackened habanado peppers held hidden pockets of delight through the dish. A small bite of cantaloupe pickled to perfection with a shard of bacon jowl made a darned near perfect bite in and of itself. The pumpkin mussel soup was really creamy and packed with pumpkin flavor and I held myself back from scraping the bowl for every last bit. The crispy bread they provided in our bread basket helped make sure I took care of that.
For entrees, we usually get the fish. We tried the Icelandic Cod and the Nova Scotian Halibut dishes that come in a bath of the most delicious, light, tomato and fennel based broth with pieces of kale and beans underneath. They do not skimp on fish and the broth is soooo good!
When my partner made the reservation, she mentioned it was our anniversary and after dinner, our waitress brought us a lovely glass of sparkling wine on the house. How nice! The perfect accompaniment to the Green Tomato and Apply Crisp. It sounds like a strange combination but it was very, very good.
We highly recommend Legume for all of your fine dining needs. It's not a pretentious place, either, and allows for patrons to dine in comfort. While there is no dress code, folks tend to dress either upscale or business casual.
