  • I am DEFINITELY going back as soon as possible. This place has been on my list of bookmarks for quite a long time. When we had the chance to go to their first "Pop-Up Brunch," I jumped at the chance. First of all, it was super easy to find, off Charleston and Main. There is a very small parking lot attached to the building, but it was full when I arrived. Luckily, I was able to find a spot in front of the restaurant, across the street. Since it was Sunday, it was also free. Now, this will be an interesting review for some of you, because Velveteen Rabbit does not have a kitchen or normally serve food. This brunch was (hopefully not) a one-time thing. 2 awesome Chefs from DOCG worked out of a mobile catering truck out back and served an amazing meal. I need to go back to see the actual decor. For this occasion, all of the normal furniture was removed and placed out back on the patio (which actually looked really cool). There were large round tables set up with folding chairs. The event was held to 40 people (and sold out), which was perfect. Upon entering, we were each handed a glass of Moet Ice. There was fruit and herbs on the table to add to our drinks. On the tables to start, there was a charcuterie board (with duck sausage, fresh mozzarella and other items), fresh fruit and pastries. One of the pastries was a bacon cream cheese stuffed corn muffin. OMG!! There was also extra bacon cream cheese on the table, which we all slathered on everything (it was really good). There was also a strawberry rhubarb crumble, which was probably my favorite. It was sweet without being overly sweet. Everything was served family style, and there was SO much food. There were semolina waffles with huckleberry compote and honey butter, porchetta benedict with sage biscuits (holy cow!), smoked salmon bruschetta with prosecco creme fraiche and caviar, corned beef hash (yum!), kobe short rib quiche, quattro formagio quiche and salad. As you can see - A LOT of food. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING was so freaking delicious. It seemed as if every dish was better than the last. Seriously, very well done ladies! After all of this, there was still dessert to be served! The TOWER of tastiness came out and we were all so full, it was barely touched. The selections were: cream puffs, chocolate mousse cups and chef's selection of mini cakes. The cost of this meal: $50 per person, plus gratuity. What a total steal - it also included 3 beverages. First was the Moet Ice upon arrival. Then we had the "All Hail Mary," which was Belvedere vodka with tomato, bell pepper, lemon, basil, sage and spices. This took a bit to grow on me, but it was so flavorful and well made. Last was the "Lazy Sunday," belvedere vodka, grapefruit kaffir lime leaf liqueur, lemon and fresh strawberry. Most everyone said that this was their favorite - it was like strawberry lemonade with a kick. This was such a great experience - I REALLY hope that they do this again soon. Everyone at our table had an amazing time and all said that we would do it again. Very well done! I can not give enough praise about this experience - it was by far 5 star, but since I haven't actually had a true experience at Velveteen, I am going with 4 stars for now. **NOTE** Velveteen Restaurant does NOT normally serve food. This was a pop up event...They have no kitchen! So don't go there expecting food of any kind - but they have awesome drinks!
