| - This review is for Kenny Hanna. This was perhaps the worst medical experience I've had. I was sent to him from the VA due to the wait time there. I'd had numbness in my hands, and at my first visit, he came in, took a minute to look at my arm, and told me I needed surgery in my elbow to fix it. He immediately left. OK, he was brusque, but I thought I'd withhold my opinion until after surgery.
Along comes the surgery. I went in and waited . . . and waited . . . and waited. I could hear the nurses outside wondering where he was. Over an hour later, he finally arrived at the hospital. Someone came in to check on me and mentioned my wrist surgery. I said, no, I have elbow surgery. A perturbed-looking Hanna came in and I mentioned that he'd only looked and discussed my elbow. He then looked disgusted and said that I don't have to have the wrist, but I'd, in his words, "just be back in to see me in five months." He actually scowled at me. I should have taken stock of the situation, but he's the doctor, and both being only in a surgical gown and laying there for over two hours, I was not too assertive, so I told him to do what he thought best.
I came out of surgery, and as the nurses prepared me for discharge, then asked me for my pain medication prescription. I said I didn't have any. They seemed very confused, and I heard them discuss this outside. One nurse told the other to find Hanna. I don't know what transpired, but finally, a worried-looking nurse discharged me without medication.
By late afternoon, the pain was growing, and I called the office. Someone there was surprised that I didn't have any meds, and she said she'd track down Hanna to get me some. I was not called back. That night was one of the worst in my life. The pain was significant. I couldn't sleep. I called again in the morning and had to leave a message. No one returned my call. Around lunch time, I gave in and went to the VA. A doctor there was shocked that I'd been given nothing, and she gave me a prescription, which I took for two days until the pain was more manageable.
When I was told I needed surgery, I was told that within three weeks, I'd be back in the gym. This was not true. Well, I was physically in the gym, but I couldn't use my right hand. I did what I could, which wasn't much. My elbow was fine, but my wrist was extremely painful--not just the wrist, but up though the meaty part of my thumb. After a month, I called Hanna's office, and I was told then that three weeks was the "minimum," and that eight weeks was more likely. I was told by the person on the phone how to speed up the process, which was the first post-operative instructions I'd been given.
Now, I am at 14 weeks, and I still cannot exercise properly. The meaty part of my thumb still hurts, and I cannot put pressure on it. Worse than that, the numbness issue was not solved. I am no better off now than I was before Hannah operated on it.
Then, yesterday, I received a bill from the clinic. I tried to call the number given to tell them the VA was paying for the surgery, but no one would ever pick up, and the mailbox was full.
This was not a good experience. Hannah has no reasonable bedside manner. He seemed angry to be seeing me, and his condescending attitude was not appreciated. Then he neglected on giving me any pain medication when it was obviously warranted. I still cannot fully use my right hand, and the core reason for the operation was not corrected. In my humble opinion, Hannah is incompetent. I will not go back to him for my other arm, and I would suggest that anyone contemplating surgery on his or her arm or hand choose another health-care provider.
