| - Over the past 3 years since I started Crossfit, I've dropped-in to Crossfit 480 a few times a year while visiting family in Scottsdale. I often feel spoiled by how knowledgable and attentive my coaches are at my box in Philly (Crossfit Center City), but it's places like Crossfit 480 that remind me how deep-rooted the integrity of Crossfit can be when coaches, staff, and athletes take the time to make it so. Crossfit 480, and Derek in particular, is a stand-out Crossfit box/coach and, equally important, a supportive community. Derek not only understands how to coach athletes, but he takes the time to share his knowledge in a supportive and accessible way. The programming is both challenging but adaptable, and it's clear that there is an underlying plan (versus just cardio-based metcons for 30 minutes...skill and strength are prioritized). And the community is welcoming - almost every person in both the morning and evening classes introduced themselves to me and, as an example of the integrity of the box, cheered me on to the end.
When I first began Crossfit 3 years ago, it was purely recreational, and I found Crossfit 480 to be a safe, knowledgable place to keep up my fitness. Over the past year, I've focused on becoming a more competitive Crossfit athlete, and now I appreciate Crossfit 480 as a place I can easily continue to train. Derek was supportive of my programming and also seamlessly stepped into role of coach when I needed it; I'm excited to continue using his perspective and cues to improve my DUs and kipping MUs.
Looking forward to when I return in March, and to see how Crossfit 480 continues to grow!
