  • A bit about me - I am 30-something, have 3 kids, work out occasionally/regularly (3-5 times per week, except recently due to an injury), and prefer classes to equipment but will occasionally use the equipment. I also like to swim a little, but I am not a great swimmer. For someone like me, this gym is great! The class schedules have a ton of offerings from 5 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. - and they don't do the "classes before work, noon, and at 5 p.m." thing like some gyms do. They have classes at 10 a.m., 3 p.m., or 8:30 p.m. too! It is great in this city, where many people work different schedules. I even looked at Lifetime Fitness, which was really expensive, and their class schedule stinks compared to LVAC. I love that there are so many great cardio classes at LVAC (I love Sh'Bam and Zumba), but also enjoy Body Flow, Yoga, and other mind/body classes. And some of the water classes are pretty good too, just to mix it up. (Some are for grannies, but some are good.) I have used this club and the Sahara/Decatur club and both are fine - this location is newer and nicer, but I find the facilities at the older club to be fine too. There are a lot of complaints about crowds, parking, etc. I will say this in response - if you go to a club with this level of amenities and workout activities (swimming, running track, a ton of classes around the clock to accommodate every workout preference, etc.) in any other city, it costs a LOT more than LVAC. My friends in Boston pay around $100/month for a club like this. I used to pay $60/month for a club nowhere near as good as this one in San Diego - it had very limited hours and classes. So you are paying $20-$30/month here, and it is crowded sometimes. (Note - it is not crowded on the weekend days!) The crowds keep your costs down, and you still have a great place to work out. If you want to be in a less crowded place with better parking and pay $100+ per month, there are a few other options for you in town. At this price point, I think LVAC is better than the other options I looked into. Playroom Review: The playroom is really fun for my kids. I wish they could do something about the announcements to get kids/babies who are crying though. Even my church has a pager system, like PF Changs, that buzzes if I need to go to get them. Why can't LVAC manage this, instead of a weird sounding announcement that no one can understand to go to the playroom every 3 minutes?! You hear "blabbity blah, please come to the playroom, blabbity blah." And you never know if it is you, which is very stressful for parents of babies/toddlers! Besides the intercom, my kids (now 3 and 5 years old - no intercom needed) like LVAC - there are slides/tunnels, a bouncy house, coloring, games, and usually a good (Disney/Pixar type) movie going. They find the gym as fun as going to a park or something - they ask to go to the gym. I agree the club is too noisy though - it makes relaxing here pretty impossible unless you are in the jacuzzi or steam room. The juice bar area should be less noisy and chaotic, and the prices of the juice bar should be more reasonable. (I honestly would buy most things here if they were about $1 less. But at this price point, I figure it is easier to go home and make my own protein shake.) Locker rooms - no complaints here. They are always clean, and I have never had to wait for a shower. As far as the people being weird, or a pick-up scene, or any of that - I say, who cares?! I am there to work out, and there are lots of people like me at this gym. I could care less if people wear skimpy clothes and work out in full makeup to try to meet someone, or if they are overweight, married, and prefer baggy pants. I don't wear the coolest gym clothes or look good at the gym. We all are presumably there for the same reason - to improve our health and fitness, burn some calories, and get some energy from working out. If the presence of people who look different from you intimidates you in a gym, well then, you might need a therapist instead of a gym.
