  • Just returned from a stay at the Golden Nugget. First problem was parking. The sign at the self parking garage said FULL, so we valet parked our first night. Later found out that the FULL sign is always lit, even though there are plenty of empty parking spaces. Secondly, although we had a reservation, they had there were no king size rooms available for our first night. We were told that we could change to a king size room for our second night. But who wants to unpack for one night, then pack, and move to another room? So we just stayed in our double room for both nights. Thirdly, although it was a nonsmoking room, there was the inevitable musty stench that is typical of older Vegas hotels. Fourthly, the elevators were terrible. Several of the elevators were inoperable, so there was always a crowd of people waiting. We overheard someone saying to stay off of this one particular elevator car. We thought nothing of it and boarded anyway. Sure enough, as soon as the door closed and started to move, it jerked to a stop, which was very disconcerting. The door did open and several people got off to take another car. We stayed on with a couple of other people and got to our floor without further drama. We did enjoy the pool area, although it was difficult to find two empty chaise lounges. The slide through the shark tank was fun. We never ate at the hotel, but they seemed to have a nice variety of restaurants to choose from. For the price, the hotel was okay. But next time, I'd probably pay more for a nicer hotel.
