  • My husband and I have been avid fans of the Monte Carlo for years. We come here 4-5 times a year and if you read my original review from a few years ago you'll see why. This used to be a great resort for the price. This is our first visit back to the Monte Carlo since this summer (the longest we've gone between visits) and I truly feel like its the end of an era for me & my husband that found this place so special. At check-in, we were informed that our once free valet & daily parking was no longer such. It is now $13 a day for valet or $8 a day for self parking. I've never paid for parking in Vegas and I kind of thought that was a given when we are squeezed for every cent on resort fees wherever we go. So that was a disappointing start to our trip. Then, we got in after dark so when we got to our room & I looked out the window that I was fairly confident used to face the pool, all i saw in the darkness was the faintest visual of a dirt construction area. My husband assured me I must be mistaken and the pool must be on the otherside. After all, Monte Carlo has one of the best pool areas on the strip. I began unpacking and noticed the room just seemed a lot more rough around the edges than rooms we'd had in the past. The next day we were rudely awoken by construction at 7am sharp outside in that dirt lot...not exactly the time I'd planned for considering we're in Vegas. We walked through the Street of Dreams towards the tram and was surprised to see that it was gone. Every shop, little restaurant, The Pub (a great restaurant) all gone. There was just fake walls everywhere with advertisements for a new Park MGM. Then I realized the doors at the beginning of what used to be the Street of Dreams that took you to the pool area hadn't been there. We raced to the tram station as it gave a great visual of the pool area and my fears were confirmed. It is gone. It is all gone and its not coming back. They are using the space to make 2 new hotels for the MGM revitalisation. Monte Carlo will no longer have a pool. Guests will have to pack their items and walk to another MGM resort in their swimsuits to have access to one of their pools...something I can tell you no woman wants to do & is inconvenient to everyone. Now I'm laying here on Saturday morning, went to bed at 2am, and was again awoken by construction at 7am sharp. We will never stay here again. I used to be a walking advertisement for Monte Carlo. Now, I will tell my friends it might as well be torn down. I'm angry, disappointed and I want my money back because this is not the resort I made reservations for. Not a resort with plenty of shops, great restaurants, a fantastic pool, and relaxing mornings. I might as well go home early where I CAN sleep in, park for free, swim in a pool (I get that it's January), and NOT pay exorbitant resort fees for nothing that is even resort like.
