| - This hotel, casino and brewery is a hidden gem. However this casino has not been lucky in Las Vegas over the years. Now that Boyd's owns it, it has finally "made it." It is located where else but on Main Street (North Main Street) about a block north of Fremont Street and the Fremont Street Experience. There in an enclosed walking bridge that will take you over North Main Street directly into the California Hotel and Casino which is nice.
The first time I came to Vegas this hotel was the Holiday International. It opened in 1978. Here's what I mean about unlucky. The properties Casino closed in September of 1980 after going into bankruptcy. The Hotel, owned by Holiday Inn closed in 1984 after the employees went on strike. The strike lasted a long period of time and the hotel didn't make it through it.
Ok, the bad luck continues, some investor dude from Japan reopened the property in 1987 and it was called the the Park Hotel and Casino....it closed in 1990. Ok here we go again. I'm not sure the hole story here but some developer from Florida put. Ton of money into it and opened as the Church Street Station In 1991 and this one lasted less than a year, how much does that suck.
At this point I figure the place is cursed or something and I stay away from it.
Boyd gaming purchased the closed property in 1993 for $16.5 dollars. That's cheap my friends. But, they ended up putting another $45 million into it and opened it as the Main Street Station In 1996.
The atmosphere of the place is really nice, like an old train station. It has some unique features too. A piece of the Berlin Wall is in the men's room with urinals attached to it. It has chandeliers Coca-Cola building and the Figaro Opera House among other features. The offer a self guided tour, so you can get information and see all of these things. It's very interesting.
The gaming floor like most of the casinos in the Freemont Street Experience area is small compared to those on the Strip, this one a little less than 30,000 sq. Ft. But is nice and the table games here can be as low as $5 Dollar minimums. The hotel has around 400 rooms.
The employees here seem to enjoy their jobs and are helpful and nice.
Here's the best part, you can get rooms here for as low as around $40. How about that. The room aren't as luxurious as say the Wynn for example. But they are nice and clean. I have spent $400 a night staying in Las Vegas and really how much time do you spend in your room anyway? Is that worth it?
There is a brewery in the hotel, the Triple 7 Brewery which is really nice. They serve 8 different micro brews so go have a beer while here. It's a restaurant and a microbrewery.
The more I come to Vegas the more I enjoy the Freemont Street Experience area and this is a nice hotel and casino to come to.
