  • Welcome Diner is dead. The new location has lost all of the charm and ambiance that drew people to eat there in the first place. I feel like they should have named it Millennial in a Quarter Life Crisis Diner because this restaurant is having an identity crisis. It seems like the interior decor was designed by a 55 year old who looked at a Buzzfeed list of things millennials like and then just crammed all of them into the building without taking into account that they don't all go together. In the diner there is old milk cartons turned into seats, disco balls, pinatas, plants in hanging macrame holders, and your receipt comes in an old book. And yes while all those things can be neat when used well, that is not the case here. Additionally, I feel the food quality has gone down. The portions seemed smaller and the quality of the meat just wasn't there. Previously, you could taste the high quality meat in the burger. Not anymore. The patio was fine. However, the lightning could be improved. It was too harsh. All in all this now feels like a restaurant you would find in Downtown Gilbert.
