  • For the most part, this place is a good hotel. The rooms are clean, the décor is tasteful, the staff is really nice, and the location is good. All that said, I was pretty disappointed by the business model related to amenities. I love Kimpton as a chain because they always strive to put their guests first. This property does not live up to that standard. The best example is the swimming pool situation. The pool and the adjacent Lustre Bar are open to any and everyone. This means that if you are a paid guest, there is a really good chance on the weekend that you will not get to enjoy the pool at all. (And if you are traveling with children, forget it because even in the afternoon the scene at the pool is far from family-friendly.) It was a startling contrast to the last Kimpton I stayed at, which only allowed access to the swimming pool with a guest key card. To add insult to injury, the pool was closed early the day before for a private party. So, two of the three evenings that I was at the hotel, I couldn't enjoy the pool, once because it was closed and once because it was entirely overrun by non-guests of the hotel. When I asked the front desk why there was such an out of control mess on the pool deck, I was told that they need to allow the pool open to outside guests to maintain a "competitive edge" in the Phoenix market. That tells me that their hotel guests are not their priority, which was absolutely shocking to me from a Kimpton property.
