We happened to stumble across the write-up on BlogTO and had been excitedly anticipating our visit to The Red Bench for over a week. We finally came here after work today and the attitude from the female employee there completely killed the entire experience for us.
When we first walked in and approached the counter, she turned her back to us. She did not acknowledge us and basically made no eye contact the entire time. There were no other customers in there at the time, so it's not like she was swamped and filling a million orders at once. When we were ready to place the order, she was so rude and acted like she hated the world and that it was our fault that she worked at a job that she so obviously hated. We asked if we could have their "Made to Order" and she said very curtly "we're not doing that right now, it's just on the board". Ummm... okay, but don't act like we were asking you just to piss you off. It's on the board, I think it's reasonable that we thought it was being offered!
Although the ice cream sandwiches we chose were good, her attitude and personality could use a huge makeover. I have been to many places where the server was indifferent... I can tolerate indifference, but she acted like the world owed her. Ice cream shops are a dime a dozen. Why would I ever go back to a place where they are so rude and grumpy that they don't realise that they're doing such an excellent job of running the place to the ground that they'll probably soon be out of a job!
Someone should pass the message on to her that no one is forcing her to work there. If she hates it so badly, she should leave... Instead of taking it out on the customers. If this was my business, I would fire her in a heartbeat.
