  • Le Westin is my favorite hotel in Montreal! Based on the price and other amenities, I rate this a 5 stars hotel. (Four Seasons hotels self-proclaimed to provide 5 stars guest experience must be perfect and I have yet to find perfection in delivering such experiences in numerous hotels I've stayed at thus far.) The staff is courteous, professional, efficient and thoughtful. Upon my arrival, after stranded in SFO and JFK for over five (5) hours due to "weather", I was greeted with understanding and Montreal hospitality at the late night check in staff. I requested a room on the high floors and received a free upgrade to a room with awesome views of Montreal's waterfronts and downtown! The room feels comfortable and the views are awesome! The bed is supremely comfortable to relax and recuperate! The furniture is minimalistic and modern, just the way I like. There is a small refrigerator inside the entertainment center -- it works; keeping my Pellegrino and Chablis nicely chilled! The in room free Wifi is sufficient for basic needs; one can upgrade to ultra fast Wifi to stream Netflix for example at C$11.99 per day. There is an in room safe to keep my passport safe! I'm here on this trip to decompress and rejuvenate so this is the perfect hotel for me, away from the hustle and bustle of life. Luckily, it's a "warm" winter in Montreal so I'm all good; except the locals miss a white Christmas (I could benefit from some snow, but I came to also replace my very old winter clothes -- I'm looking forward to Boxing Day sales since I packed very lightly for that exact reason -- hey, the US$ is trading at about 75 cents to the C$). I'll walk or take a short bus trip to the main shopping center about 5 minutes away by bus; or 20 minutes by walk. The high points are the awesome views from my free upgraded room and the double shower heads (no need to worry about the California drought here). While this lovely hotel is in "old" downtown Montreal, it's close to Chinatown and Montreal's art district! And it's three blocks away from a great indoor mall for groceries and other necessities. This Westin is showing some of its age -- a modest remold would bring the amenities up to par: the blinds are frayed, some of the towels have exceeded their use at a luxury hotel, plastic battery door for the in-room safe was broken and duck tape was used to hold the batteries in place, the zipper on the duvet of my down blanket was broken and the wood laminate on the interiors of the furniture have cracked. Cost cutting shows too: slipper are available but are not given to guest unless requested and the in-room lounge chair is too small, feel substandard and uncomfortable to sit on for prolonged periods. Great security -- one needs one's room key card to use the elevators. The hotel restaurant Gazette is open on Christmas and packed full of folks for breakfast! The breakfast buffet is about C$27 (including taxes about 15%). I tried the breakfast buffet which has a fair amount of variety of food, including smoked salmon (fresh and delicious) and sausages (delightful with a tiny kick) and great hash-brown patties (nice and crunchy with a tiny kick). I highly recommend this breakfast buffet; it will keep you full until supper or dinner time.
